Anxiety Therapy (in Austin and Online Across TX & CA)
How does anxiety feel?
Constant worry. A feeling different from stress. A nagging uneasiness that won't fade. Relentless butterflies. Sleepless nights consumed by thoughts. Endlessly looping concerns. Nightmares haunting your sleep. Shortness of breath in moments of panic. Avoidance kicking in automatically. Procrastination taking over your actions. Excuses piling up to justify the unease. Guilt creeping in for not handling things better. Sadness overshadowing moments of joy. Loneliness lingering like an unwanted visitor. Fear gripping your heart. More worry added to the pile each day. Rinse and repeat again and again and again. The struggle is real.
What is Anxiety?
Anxiety is your body’s way of protecting yourself. It serves a purpose and when understood, controlled and redirected, it can be extremely useful. My goal in anxiety therapy is to teach you how to better manage your anxiety by becoming friends with it and allowing it to be an ally and aide rather than an enemy or something to fear.
What does anxiety look like?
While anxiety shows up differently for everyone, it can look like:
Perfectionism / Procrastination
Anger / Self-criticism
OCD tendencies
Fidgeting
Constant fear or worry / Nervousness
Impatience / An inability to make decisions / Thinking and rethinking over every possibility
Always having an escape plan
Not ever being fully present because your mind is always focusing on too many other things
Constantly being short with those around you and then feeling guilty about it
Not being able to focus on one task at a time because there are just too many things to take care of each more important than the next
Saying no to things repeatedly even though you want to say yes and then feeling sad and isolated.
The list is not exhaustive and if any of these experiences resonate with you and you’re ready to hop off the struggle bus, click here so that I can help.
Through exploration of fears and worries, breath and body work, mindfulness, validation and reframing your narratives (the stories you tell yourself), you will learn how to trust and call upon your anxiety in times of need and send it away when it no longer serves you. You will not learn how to simply manage your anxiety, but instead you will learn to control it. I want to empower you to use your anxiety as a strength and a super power rather than continue to battle with it, feel crippled by it or see it as a weakness or a flaw.
How can anxiety therapy help me feel better?
You will be able to notice when you start to feel anxious, and you will be able to pinpoint exactly what you feel anxious about
You will be able to choose from the skills you have learned in therapy to decide what to do with your anxiety
You will no longer be scared of when your anxiety will show up because you will have all the tools you need to deal with it when it does
You will be able to focus on the present and reconnect with yourself and others
You will enjoy your experiences as they happen and maybe even make space for new experiences instead of worrying about the what ifs
Instead of waking up to fear or constant worry, you will be able to breathe deeply and take things once step at a time
You will feel calm, confident and empowered to live your best life

Anxiety therapy is not limited to one type of problem. Rather it can help with a wide range of conditions including but not limited to:
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) - Constant and continuous worry about everyday situations so much so that it impacts your work, school and/or general life functioning. Therapy for generalized anxiety disorder helps reduce this never ending worry.
Social Anxiety - Social anxiety therapy focuses on fear of judgment or embarrassment in social situations. Therapy works to help you feel more comfortable around others.
Health Anxiety - Health anxiety therapy helps reduce constant distress about illness or physical symptoms.
Relationship Anxiety - Relationship anxiety therapy helps you manage fear, insecurity and overthinking in relationships.
-
There are multiple modalities to support working with anxiety and the goal of all of them is to help you feel better and function more easily. Here are a few that I use often:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) - Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for anxiety is probably the most effective method as it focuses on how your thoughts, feelings and behavior all impact each other. By changing negative thinking patterns you can reduce anxiety.
Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) - Solution Focused Brief Therapy for anxiety works on fixing the most pressing issue first before working backward to root patterns and prevention. Sometimes we need to work on what’s right in front of us before we can go deeper.
Mindfulness Based Techniques - Mindfulness for anxiety allows you to slow down and notice what is happening within you and around you without judgment so that you can choose to act (with intention) instead of constantly reacting.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) - Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for anxiety helps you accept your thoughts without fighting them. Rather than trying to remove anxiety you learn to live alongside it while focusing on what matters to you.
Exposure Therapy - Exposure therapy helps you face your fears in a gradual and safe way. Instead of avoiding situations, you slowly learn to tolerate them. This results in reduction of fear.
Other Evidence Based Therapy Approaches
There are also other evidence based therapy for anxiety methods that include:
Psychodynamic therapy
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) for anxiety
Brainspotting therapy for anxiety
As each person who struggles with anxiety is different, so is the approach used to help you feel better. Each therapy session is tailored to your specific wants and needs.

Your age, life stage and experiences all shape what therapy will look like for you as therapy does not look the same for everyone. As a result, therapy services are adjusted based on your wants and needs.

understand each other’s triggers
respond safely and with empathy
