Parenting Therapy & Counseling to Support You and Your Family

Parenting Is Hard - You Don’t Have to Do It Alone

You love your child deeply and at the same time you might also feel tired, frustrated and unsure. Every parent, no matter how competent you are, experiences moments of doubt and uncertainty. Parenting therapy is not just for when you’re hanging on by a thread, things are falling apart faster than you can put them back together or you feel like you’re failing day in and day out. It’s also for when things feel heavy, confusing or just too much or when things are going just fine and you’re curious about yourself and your relationship patterns with your child.

Many parents seek parent counseling because they want to improve their parenting skills or better understand their child and how to relate to them. Therapy for parents gives you a safe space to talk freely with no judgment and no pressure, just support.

You are not alone in this and you definitely don’t have to figure it all out by yourself. Asking for help is one of the bravest things you can do.

What Is Parenting Therapy & Counseling?

Parenting therapy is a system of support for helping you understand your child, your reactions and the patterns of your family.

It focuses on:

  • Improving communication

  • Handling behavior calmly

  • Building stronger emotional bonds

Parental counseling is often more focused on solving the problems you currently have and gives you the practical tools for everyday situations. You also learn how your actions affect your child and which changes can lead to significant improvements in your home. Essentially, you get deep emotional insight and real life strategies simultaneously.

  • Many parents think they should “handle it on their own” but the truth is that parenting is super complex.

Help with parenting is sought for many reasons including:

Feeling overwhelmed or stressed -You feel tired most of the time and even small things feel too big or like a challenge for you. This is where parenting therapy helps you slow down and reset.

Struggling with discipline or behavior - Your child does not listen to you, you feel like all you do is yell or maybe you feel stuck between being too strict and too soft.

Communication breakdown with children - You try to talk but it turns into tantrums, arguments, slammed doors or being totally ignored and you’re at a loss for what to do.

Parenting during life transitions -Divorce, moving, new schools or new family roles can change everything.

Therapy helps you understand these changes and respond in a healthier and more productive way. It gives you an understanding of how to stay calm and clear, even in hard moments.

  • Every family struggles but you don’t have to stay stuck in them.

Parenting therapy helps you deal with stress and pressure before it turns into burnout.

    Behavior and discipline challenges

When your children throw tantrums, become defiant or give you constant pushback, it can feel exhausting. Here, therapy helps you respond with clarity and calm vs. frustration or criticism.

    Communication issues

Many parents and children talk, but they don’t actually understand each other. Parenting therapy gives you simple tools to listen, understand and respond better so that your child feels heard, valued and respected.

    Co-parenting and family conflict

Different parenting styles can create tension and chaos. Here, therapy can help you align your approaches resulting in reduced conflict and easier interactions.

    Stress, burnout and emotional fatigue

When you parent without rest, it leads to burnout. In scenarios like these, structured support can help you create positive changes in your daily life to restore energy and make parenting less exhausting.

  • I support a wide range of families and every parent’s journey is different.

New Parents - Being a new parent comes with uncertainty of the future and overwhelming thoughts which can leave you emotionally exhausted. I can help you build confidence early.

No matter what your situation is, support is available.

  • Due to a number of reasons, parents and children can feel distant with one another. In these situations, parenting therapy focuses on rebuilding trust and reconnecting with your child.

Your relationship with your child is the foundation of everything and this is where approaches like Child Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT) come in.

CPRT focuses on strengthening the emotional bonds between you and your child through connection.

    Strengthening connection with your child

You learn how to be more present, how to listen and how to respond without reacting.

    Managing conflict and emotional distance

Conflict is normal, but constant or consistent conflict creates distance. Therapy helps repair that gap.

Support for specific relationships (mother-son, mother-daughter)

Each relationship is unique. Support is not linear for everyone but is adjusted and tailored to your situation.

  • Individual parenting therapy

This therapy focuses on you, your thoughts, stress, anxiety and parenting patterns and goals.

    Couples therapy for parenting

Helps partners align their parenting approach by reducing conflict and working together as a team.

  • Authoritative vs. Authoritarian

Authoritative parenting balances rules with empathy whereas authoritarian parenting focuses more on control by the parent.

    Gentle vs. Permissive Parenting

Gentle parents works to understand and honor your child’s feelings while holding boundaries which allows your child to feel safe and explore independently. On the other hand, permissive parenting allows your child to reign free with few, if any, consequences or learning lessons leaving your child confused and scared.

Find an approach that is balanced

Therapy helps you understand your natural style and then adjust it for better outcomes.

  • I use proven methods that focus on both emotions and behavior.

    Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

This method is effective for changing negative thought patterns.

    Attachment Based Therapy

Focuses on emotional bonding and security. This helps to create a strong and lasting bond between you and your child.

    Mindfulness Based Therapy

Mindfulness is not just a tool that can help you improve your parenting skills, it spans almost all areas of life. Using it helps you stay calm and present. And maintaining a calm and steady presence is one of the most important skills a parent can master.

What to Expect in Parenting Counseling Sessions

Starting parenting counseling may feel uncertain. So, knowing what will happen in advance will help you feel more prepared.

First session process: Your first session will typically be mostly information sharing so that I can better understand your situation. We will talk about your challenges, your child and your goals. I will listen and we will discuss and map out an initial plan.

Goal setting - Together, we will set clear and simple goals. These may include communication improvement, managing behavior or reducing stress at home.

Ongoing sessions - After goal setting, each session builds on the last. You will learn new tools, try them at home and reflect on what works and what does not. This creates a step by step process resulting in real change over time.
